Young PR professionals must bring new perspectives and innovative solutions to the field of public relations. Technology must also be utilized without abandoning identity and tradition.
Perhumas Chairman Boy Kelana revealed that while technology and innovation push humans forward, national identity and values must remain a reference.
“Today we are in Bali, a place rich in wisdom, harmony and creativity. We are reminded of the importance of balancing tradition with technology. Bali teaches us that even in the midst of change, our roots remain grounded. For young PR professionals, this is a very important lesson,” Boy said at the opening of the fourth day of the World Public Relations Forum 2024 in Nusa Dua, Bali, Friday (22/11/2024).
Boy added, to be a game changer is not just about breaking the norm but about creating meaningful changes that benefit society. To be a future leader, Boy said, requires vision, empathy, and adaptability.
“The challenges we face today-climate change, misinformation, and the dominance of technology-demand young leaders who are not only equipped with skills, but also principles. In a world increasingly dominated by technology and artificial intelligence (AI), young PR professionals must utilize these tools ethically and responsibly,” Boy continued.
According to Boy, AI offers tremendous potential to transform communications. However, PR professionals must ensure that these technologies serve humanity without compromising values such as honesty, empathy and accountability.
“This is where Perhumas steps in by integrating the AI Code of Ethics into our framework-making sure that technology supports, not undermines, responsible communication,” Boy explained.
To all Perhumas Muda members, Boy reminded them to continue promoting Indonesian values-diversity, unity, and mutual respect-on the global stage.
“As a member of Perhumas Muda, you have a unique opportunity to blend modern strategies with local wisdom. Ensuring Indonesia's story is heard, respected and celebrated around the world, Indonesia Talks Good. As part of the Global Alliance for PR and Communication Management, Perhumas is proud to connect Indonesia with the international PR community,” Boy said.
Boy added that for young PR professionals, being part of this global network means not only being part of the PR community in Indonesia, but also being part of a global movement.
Boy said, this is a moment for young PR professionals to learn, collaborate and lead on a global scale, embodying the principles of responsible communication in every interaction.
“There has never been a better time to be young. You live in an era of endless possibilities, where ideas can change industries, and voices can create revolutions. With great opportunity comes great responsibility. As young PR professionals, you are entrusted with the power to shape narratives, influence opinions, and drive change,” Boy concluded.
Global Alliance President & CEO Justin Green called on all young people to believe in their own abilities. He said this is important to be able to get a job in any industry in the world.
“You know dyslexia? I've had dyslexia since I was a kid, where I couldn't read the alphabet until now. But as you can see, I've worked with many important people in the world. This means that nothing is impossible. Africans say, everything is possible with God. So, believe in yourself,” Justin concluded.
Erick emphasized that the public relations profession is currently facing situations related to misinformation, hoaxes, and free access for everyone to create content or information independently.
Erick menekankan profesi humas saat ini menghadapi situasi terkait misinformasi, hoaks, dan akses bebas bagi semua orang untuk membuat konten atau informasi secara mandiri.
